The most memorable trip ever, the trip that makes me feel that i have learned something really great!
Went to Shanghai World Expo, working as Ambassadors with 4 of school mates.
I was the only one from my class, as my classmate Shanwei backed out due to some personal reason.
Was really excited and kind of scared also before the trip because we will be going there on our own.
Without any teachers going with us.
Going to a foreign land, without anyone really close to me was like, a kinda weird feeling.
But still, i was looking forward to the trip as i believe i will be able to learn something new.
A brand new experience awaits me and i should make full use of the chance that was given to me.
I should be proud that i was given a rare chance like this and not let anyone down.
Had a few facilitation with Miss Ho & the peeps who i will be going with.
But thinking to spend a month with 4 friends who do not know each other well, it is kind of a good feeling.
Good to make new friends here and there, it widens our horizon.
Mandy, Priscilla, Sharon & Jianxiong(the only guy) are my new friends going with me! :)
The day of departure is finally here, left house very early, as our flight is very early!
Miss Ho & Miss Jaci Tan came to send us off, & also gave us 'GOOD LUCK' red packet.
So sweet of them~ XD
Took the flight, AWESOME, as it was Singapore Airlines :D
When we touched down Shanghai, the feeling is not describable.
I felt kind of lost as people around us, really seems different.
Everyone was talking loudly, we had damn heavy luggages, the people at the airport just gave us weird glances.
They even commented about our heavy luggages, without rendering any help.
Oh my god, at that point of time, i told myself, i must be strong, there is sure to be more to come.
Took the maglev train with Mandy & Jianxiong while Sharon & Priscilla took sharon's uncle car as their luggage was heavy.
The maglev train was awesome! It was a fun experience as it was travelling at a fast speed!
Took to some station(i forgot the name) and cabbed down to our hostel.
The cab uncle didnt bring us to the exact place, we got to ask for directions after that.
YES, finally we manage to get to the hostel & checked in.
Saw Xiaowei(another volunteer from tp) and she gave us our shirts and tell us about the time to meet etc.
I was in another shift with jianxiong, with another girl, Crystal(also from tp).
HEHE, happy to know another 2 new friends :D
The first day of work was nice.
Went to the expo with a very good feeling! :D New place, new people, new things to learn!
Met another bunch of new people! Chris from STB & many others from different walks of life.
It was good, seeing different people work together, to make Singapore pavilion a awesome one to visitors.
People from polytechnics, junior colleges, STB, schools from China, external volunteers etc.
Seeing everyone working together, it makes me feel team spirit!!
There were many securities, hired by Kingsmen, although they're from China, some of them were rather friendly.
Nice talking to some of them.
The first week of work, we were to observe how our seniors manage crowds, take VIP tours around the pavilion, facilitate information around the pavilion.
It was quite hectic but it was very worthwhile learning.
By the second week, we were to try taking VIP tours.
I was still quite unable to do it, but my team encourages me, i was very touched and i told myself i can do it, i must give it my best!
Reaching the end of the expo, the crowd increases, it was terrible. We had to do very serious crowd control as it was going haywire.
At the green access which was supposing to be only VIPs, 75yrs old&above, baby prams & physically handicap people who can use, there was chaos.
People start to take advantage of easy access and we had to put to a stop.
There werent enough mics, so we had to use our own voice to help to handle the crowd.
It was bad, some of us even suffered sore throat :(
We even got scolded very terribly by unhappy visitors, some even scolded our family members.
But as people representing the sg pavilion, we had to hold our cool and still try to assist them.
It was difficult at first, but slowly it became okay.
We also had to handle crowd when there is photo taking with the dancers, who will perform either at the dbs fountain or stage.
Cause they might be harassed by some nasty visitors.
Overall, the learning points i got from this trip.
- Must be independent, cannot always depend on others for survival.
- Must stay positive always, there's bound to be failures, what matters most, is to stand up & fight on!
- Keep learning!
- Be sociable, mix around, get to know people from different walks of life will be beneficial in our life!
- Always ask if unsure, people will help!
- Respect others first before you want to gain respect.
- Do not take set backs as game over, it is just a platform for improvement.
- Do not take things for granted, treasure what we have now.
